"Elias"

(Opus 70) of

Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy

 

Work was written for an adults' big mixed choir, eight soloists and a symphony orchestra, Elias was created in English in 1846 in Birmingham and is interpreted there every year since this date.

 

The libretto, pulled by the Old Testament - " the 1st Book of Kings ", Chap. XVII - XIX-, redraws the animated life of the prophet Elijah and its fight against the idolization of the people of Israel (more details under the section " The work ").


Nine days of training course in the southwest of France in Toulouse - from 16 till 25 July 2010 - followed by two concerts in Toulouse and its region.


The purpose of plan is to unite 150 amateur singers of high level come from 4 corners of Europe and even from a bigger distance, from languages, original and different cultures, accommodated together, during week. It to allow musical distribution and the exchange of experiences across a common medium : vocal practice and learning of works of musical heritage.


Across this plan, we want to make discover this work to a broad public, but also to contribute to better knowledge between groups of different nationalities. So, in our way, we contribute to open an European space in Toulouse around vocal art.
